TOOTH CROWN TREATMENTS
Dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth — to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.
A crown is just like a cap, shaped like a tooth, which is fitted on top of an existing tooth. While improving your tooth’s appearance, a crown also strengthens it and can correct any weaknesses in its size or shape. Crowns are often used where a tooth has required a large filling, both to strengthen the tooth and ensure there is enough tooth to hold the filling in place. The crown also improves the tooth’s cosmetic appearance.
Other reasons for fitting a crown could be to cover teeth that have a poor or unattractive shape, may be discolored, or to provide a cap on a dental implant. They are also used to hold bridges in place. Crowns are made permanent by cementing them into place so that they totally encase the tooth above the gum line.
